HMS Pinafore ist der Name einer von Gilbert und Sullivan komponierten irdischen Operette des 19. Jahrhunderts, welche unter anderem das Lied A British Tar im ersten Akt enthält.

Diese Operette wird 2375 von Lieutenant Commander Data für eine Aufführung an Bord der USS Enterprise einstudiert, kurz bevor er zum Briar Patch beordert wird. (Star Trek: Der Aufstand)

A British tar is a soaring soul

Or the tang of a tyrant tongue
His foot should stamp and his throat should growl
His hair should curl and his face should scowl
His eyes should flash and his breast protrude
And this should be his customary attitude
