When Star Trek went off the air after its third season on television, it seemed that the voyages of the Starship Enterprise had ended. It looked as if we had seen the last of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, and the rest of the intrepid crew. Even more than ten years later, no further adventures had happened, except for a handful of cartoons.

Then, in 1979, came the heralded arrival of the first Star Trek feature film -- Star Trek: The Motion Picture -- and a phenomenon was reborn. since that time, four more films, each a box-office success, have appeared to critical and popular acclaim. Trek: The Making of the Movies chronicles the on-screen and behind-the-scenes stories of each of these five films, as well as the sixth, and perhaps, final film, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Trek: The Making of the Movies offers a wealth of trivia, including information on the Star Trek II that never appeared and the aborted Star Trek VI: Starfleet Academy. Van Hise includes interviews with the stars of the movies, as well as with those who worked behind cameras and editing machines to bring them to the screen.

It is in the films that the biggest and boldest Trek stories have been told: new characters have been introduced, favorite heroes have ome and gone, and the adventures have continued. This book is a must for all fans of Star Trek, science fiction fans, film buffs, and all who are interested in the continuing Star Trek saga.
